Ever since satellite images of concentration camps in Xinjiang began to surface, the Uyghur crisis has been widely reported in the Western media. Nowadays, it is difficult find a person who is not aware of what is going on in that part of the world, although that does not mean that there is a single accepted interpretation as to what happened there and why. The aerial images of structures encircled by wire fences have been supplemented by leaked government documents and individual testimonies by camp survivors.
